Lånekassen may delete the interest on your loan for a period if you are on a low income and your circumstances entitle you to deletion of interest. You can also get a repayment deferral during the same period. This means that your loan is “frozen” during the period in question. This can solve a short-term payment difficulty. Read more about the deletion of interest.
You may be eligible to have your loan deleted in full or in part if your payment difficulties are the result of disabilities. Read more about the deletion of debt for borrowers with disabilities.
Are you unable to service your debt?
If you are having financial difficulties, you can apply to set up a repayment plan, debt settlement or have all or part of your loan forgiven (cancelled). The Norwegian National Collection Agency (SI) considers these kinds of applications on behalf of Lånekassen and you must send your application to them. This is the case regardless of whether or not your loan has been transferred to the Norwegian National Collection Agency.
Please enclose documentation showing your financial situation. The application form and further information about the rules that apply can be found at sismo.skatteetaten.no.
You can also call the Norwegian National Collection Agency on +47 75 14 90 00 to find out the rules and how to apply. If your loan has not yet been transferred to the Norwegian National Collection Agency, you need to ask to speak with someone who works with debt settlements. Tell them that it relates to a 629 demand.
Applying for a debt settlement
If your situation means that you will experience persistent difficulty servicing your debt, you can apply for a debt settlement with the Norwegian National Collection Agency (SI).
A debt settlement entails entering into agreements with all of your creditors so that you pay off part of your debt and the rest will be deleted. The rules enshrined in the Norwegian Debt Settlement Act apply as supplementary regulations.
When you apply for a debt settlement, you need to submit documentation showing your financial situation and that of your spouse or cohabitant. The municipal debt counsellor can assist you.
You need to contact the Norwegian National Collection Agency (SI) on +47 75 14 90 00 if you want to apply for a debt settlement.
